Congratulations to Kevin Simoneau who came in first place as a secondary student in automotive for The Skills Canada provincial Competition. This event was held at The Tradex in Abbotsford, BC in April 2017. Competitors from post-secondary, secondary, middle and elementary schools all compete in the Provincial Skills Canada British Columbia Competition where thousands of students are presented with the opportunity to watch their peers showcase trades & technology skills.
The provincials competition consisted of six skill testing tasks from diagnosing an electrical problem to leak down testing a motor. Each contestant was given 45 minutes as the judges scored each contestant by how well each task was completed and how well they followed the steps given.
To get to provincials Kevin had to come first in regionals which were held at his school. As the winner of provincials Kevin was also flown to Winnipeg, MB to compete for BC in nationals. The Winnipeg competition was more vigorous and was held over two days. In Winnipeg, Kevin came 5th against 8 other provinces.
Kevin’s teacher Greg Erho from BCIT and his coworkers, as well as Brad Dingler from sd42 trades, awarded Kevin the gold medal and the certificate for coming 1st in provincials. He also received a gift card from BCIT and Seattle Tool. Congratulation Kevin!
