Going Green with Toyota

Toyota sets the bar higher for other car manufacturers, especially how the company helps out the environment. The newly published 2014 North American Environmental Report documents how Toyota is leading the way in eco-friendly and responsible manufacturing. From the concept and design of the vehicles to the operational methods used, Toyota looks for ways to reduce its carbon footprint on the environment.

This dedication shows by the fact that Toyota has more LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified dealerships throughout Canada than the competition. The company has also saved 6,300 cubic metres of natural gas in the previous twelve months at the  Delta, British Columbia aluminum wheel manufacturing facility. A  process innovation that was created by Toyota Team Members from the assembly plant in Cambridge, Ontario has recycled 46 million litres of water.

The report highlights five areas where Toyota excels. These include carbon, water, materials, biodiversity and outreach. Some of the successes include:

  • A fuel cell vehicle will be on the market in 2015, which will be powered by hydrogen
  • Six vehicles were named as best-in-class for fuel efficiency by Natural Resources Canada
  • The company donated 758 office chairs to various Canadian charities to reduce landfill waste

These are just a few of the ways that Toyota shows that it cares about the environment and the people who drive Toyota vehicles. It is another reason that the car manufacturer is leading the way for tomorrow’s technologies to do even more.
