2016 Toyota Prius v Review
Posted on December 18, 2015
Few vehicles have changed the automotive market in recent times quite like the Toyota Prius, a vehicle that brought the idea of the hybrid powertrain to the public. For the driver who wants the same fuel efficiency and ease of use, but needs a little more room for passengers and cargo, the 2016 Toyota Prius v is the answer, bringing the economic Prius powertrain to the MPV class. The fun-to-drive Prius v is available as a singular trim level, with two available option packages.
Aerodynamic and Comfortable
Every line and curve on the exterior of the 2016 Toyota Prius v is made to improve aerodynamics and further enhance its efficient nature. The curved roofline, creased bodywork, and rear spoiler give the Prius v a sporty and stylish edge. Its sculpted front fascia features a thin upper grille, along with curved projector-style halogen headlamps that blend seamlessly into the flared wheel well and sharply sloped hood. These headlamps are controlled by an automatic headlamp system, while at the rear the LED tail lamps make sure other drivers can see your intentions in all conditions. LED headlamps are an option for better nighttime visibility. Heated, power adjustable mirrors and an electric rear window defroster make sure that sight lines are clear even in wintry and wet conditions while 16-inch aluminum alloy wheels with all-season tires can handle poor roads. Additional exterior options include 17-inch wheels and a panoramic resin moonroof.
Thanks to the high roofline, there is plenty of passenger space inside the compact frame of the 2016 Toyota Prius v. Headroom is 1,006 millimeters in the front, and 982 in the rear, while legroom is great for long trips, with 1,046 millimeters in the front and 911 millimeters in the rear. There is seating for five passengers, with cloth upholstery standard and SofTex-trimmed seating available, while heated front seats are a terrific comfort feature. Even with this roomy interior, the Prius v has room for 971 litres behind the rear seat and 1,906 litres with the rear seat folded down. Entertainment highlights include a 6-inch touch panel display audio featuring an AM/FM/CD player, USB input, and an auxiliary jack. Navigation and SiriusXM satellite radio are available options. Best of all, it features Bluetooth Hands-Free Phone Connectivity, meaning you never have to take your hands off of the wheel or eyes off of the road to make or take a phone call.
Hybrid Economy
The power system of the 2016 Toyota Prius v combines an efficient gasoline-powered engine with an electric motor. The electric motor is used for low speeds, and starting from a stop, where the most energy is needed. A Hybrid System Indicator shows the driver their efficiency, and can help you to learn how to best operate the Prius v to get the best efficiency. Drive Mode Select allows the driver to choose how the Prius consumes energy. ECO mode reduces fuel consumption while PWR mode increases gas pedal response for more responsive acceleration.
